Zappaさんがブリブリにロックしていた頃のアルバムApostrophe (')の50周年エディションが発売になりました。ということで、今回もダウンロード。George Dukeさん、Napoleon Murphy Brockさん参加で、FunkyでBlackなところが出てきたとはいえ、このアルバムはかなりロック寄りのアプローチをしていたと思います。で、このエディションに収録されているライブの音は同時期の演奏よりかなりロック色が強いですね。80年後半の円熟味の得る演奏もいいけど、ZAPPA師匠、34歳、勢いがあるこの頃の演奏いいですよね。

Disc1は、オリジナルアルバムの音源とアウトテイク、別ミックスが収録されてます。Apostrophe'のZappa師匠とJack Bruceさんのブリブリなベースの絡みが無茶苦茶カッコいい、ドラムのJim Gordonさん、なんかもったいないなぁ...。

この頃のメンバーは、FZ—guitar, vocals、Jeff Simmons—guitar, vocals、Napoleon Murphy Brock—tenor sax, vocals、George Duke—keyboards, vocals、Bruce Fowler—trombone、Ruth Underwood—percussion、Tom Fowler—bass、Ralph Humphrey—drums、Chester Thompson—drumsというラインアップ。3月いっぱい、The Mothers Of Inventionとして、全米、カナダツアーを行っていたはずですね。
この演奏はなんかカッコいいですな。Funkyで、Rockで、Jazzでとにかくいろんな要素が入り乱れていて、かつ、かなり尖ったアレンジになってます。というか、それぞれの良さが強調されてるって感じかな。特にRock寄りのアレンジはエキセントリックでムッチャカッコいいです。

全66曲、通して聴くと約5時間半、いつものことだけどボリュームありすぎだな。
50周年というとROXYもそうだけど、もう出尽くしてる感あるからね...来年のOne Size Fits Allの50周年かなぁ？以外に年内にJoe's Garageの45周年なんてのがあるかも。
